I live in Florida,  in a beautiful seaside town with many retired folks. One of them, who lives in a oceanfront condo, told me the other day, “the people in my building are so negative, all they do is complain all day long, it’s so depressing just being around them”. With no purpose, no plan to benefit society, and an empty soul. Their minds become full of murmuring and complaining and this toxic negative emotion fills their bodies full of sickness and disease. Now that is the true picture of retirement – paradise in our later years. Did you know the Hebrew culture has no word for “retirement”? The concept does not exist. Of working hard all your life so that one day, you don’t have to do anything and still get paid for it. To their culture that equals a slow and painful death. Yet, it is the American dream.

Being promised to be taken care of for the rest of your life, by a government or company is the biggest con of our generation. It reminds me of the wagon that would roll into town a 150 years ago and out of the back he would sell an elixir that would cure all ailments known to man. Of course, many would believe this “too good to be true” claim and buy into this new wonder drug. By the time the hoax was realized, the “snake oil” salesman was long gone to the next town. Well, we laugh at these simpletons now, but whoever the mathematical genius was that came up with this idea of governments and corporations being able to provide for their current work force and the previous two generations and still be able to stay afloat indefinitely, must have been a descendent of the snake oil guy! Today, we have a generation of people who have also been promised this same impossible dream and the governments and corporations who have made this snake oil miracle promise, can not carry the load, remain solvent and fulfill those promises.

We are being promised that our all-knowing, all-powerful government will be able to pull this off. The evil, greedy corporations don’t know how, but your kind, caring government can do it. Snake oil! I do not believe them for a second. No one short of Jesus Christ himself can do the impossible.

We are a generation that has forsaken faith in God and have turned to government for our help. Depend on your God to take care of you and look out for each other. If you are retired, get active, volunteer, help somebody. In doing so, you will keep your soul alive. If you are still working, trust God to prosper you and depend on yourself, your family, your friends, your neighbors. That is all you need and all you will ever need on this earth. “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and all these things will be added to you”. Now that’s true paradise on earth.

Our allegiance is to the Republic, not the democracy. We have something better than mob rule, crowd rule, loudest people rule and that is; free and fair elections. We elect representatives to govern for us and if we don’t like how they do it, we VOTE them out. Much of the world has not enjoyed free and fair elections for the past 300+ years, like we have. For us to resist, tear down, revolt against our system is pure ignorance. Our system of governing is the best the world has ever achieved. The fairest, the most equal and by far the most enjoyable to live in. The poor in our county live as kings, compared to much of the third world. Could we do a better job helping them? You bet.  For starters, we could all do a better job of simply being more thankful to God, for the opportunity to just be alive in the greatest country in the history of civilization.

The people protesting right now in many states are government employees, whom are getting paid better than most of the workers in their respective states. These states have high unemployment rates with thousands of people who are praying for a job that pays as much as the jobs these people are protesting about. Many in their states have lost their jobs, their homes, and their comforts, yet these protesters cannot imagine having to pay more for their benefits. In this economy, when everyone feels the pinch, their protests sound like spoiled kids who have been told they must give up some comforts, until things can improve. Their political leaders are also acting like spoiled little babies who refuse to abide by their oath and allegiance to our republic. Our allegiance is to the system, the country, the republic, not just to one party or the other. Allegiance to free and fair elections is the genius of the United States. One party lost in November and will probably lose again in 2012, so now they are whining and don’t like the system anymore. “Mob should rule, protesters should win, whoever cries the loudest, should get the attention”, they seem to be saying. Yet in a republic, the winners of the election are to govern as they see fit. It’s the best system out there. Not a perfect system with perfect people running it – that’s called Heaven – but it is the best there is down here.

The spiritual answer to all this discord, is this: you do not need one thing to be happy. Not one person to change, not one new possession, not one condition to improve. Every person can be happy, be content as Paul said it, in any condition. The lie of the world is – “this thing” will make you happy, or “that thing” will give you what you seek. More is what you need. More possessions, more money, more friends, more power, more, more, more. It’s a lie folks. If you are not happy now with God and your connection to Him, you will not be happy should you gain the whole world. Should you get it all, all the power, all the things, have it your exact way – you will still be empty inside. Only your connection to God can fill the void in your heart.

The unrest in the world today is just a mirror of the unrest in the human heart. There has been and always will be, only one cure. Wise men still seek Him. Seek out a good Church this Sunday morning, you might just find what you are looking for.

Reagan at 100

Posted: January 19, 2011 in Uncategorized

Below is a quote from President Ronald Reagan, whose 100th birthday would have been next month. It’s funny how the same negative things said about our country in the late 70’s (also, a bad economic season) have resurfaced again. Here is Reagan’s response:

“They tell us we must learn to live with less, and teach our children that their lives will be less full and prosperous than ours have been; that the America of the coming years will be a place where — because of our past excesses — it will be impossible to dream and make those dreams come true. I don’t believe that. And, I don’t believe you do either. That is why I am seeking the presidency. I cannot and will not stand by and see this great country destroy itself. Our leaders attempt to blame their failures on circumstances beyond their control, on false estimates by unknown, unidentifiable experts who rewrite modern history in an attempt to convince us our high standard of living, the result of thrift and hard work, is somehow selfish extravagance which we must renounce as we join in sharing scarcity. I don’t agree that our nation must resign itself to inevitable decline, yielding its proud position to other hands. I am totally unwilling to see this country fail in its obligation to itself and to the other free peoples of the world.”

It seems the sons disagree over a new book Ron Jr has coming out. See Micheal Reagan’s response here.

I know, I don’t usually write blogs on this stuff, as I am way too busy “saving the world” with my powerful insights…lol. But this is almost too good to be true and I wanted to share it with you.

I was paying over $170/month on my Brighthouse bill, for cable TV, high-speed internet and phone service. They give you a better deal for the first 12 months, but once that time expires, this was my price. Almost $16/month was just taxes and fees ($192/yr – don’t even get me started on that). Well, I am currently in cut back mode (also, something our government should consider..lol). Anything I can cut, gets cut. It’s healthy, you know. Jesus called it “pruning” in order to bear more fruit. So, I have been looking at alternatives for these services.

Here is what I came up with. First, I purchased this digital HD antenna from this website, for $57 dollars and free shipping.

This thing is small and looks like it should be on a space ship in the 50’s. They say to attach it to a steel pole about 3 feet above your roof. This one works so well, I simply have it laying on the floor of my attic, facing the digital tower in Orlando (almost 40 miles away!). I now get about 40 channels, most in HD, the quality is even better than Brighthouse (they pull their channels from the same tower), with enough choices for me and it’s absolutely FREE! (No, I do not get a commission for selling them.)

Second, I purchased a MagicJack internet phone from their web page for $20 and an additional $20 a YEAR (not a month)for phone service. You are required to get a new phone number, but outside of that, we love it. If your PC is not on, any calls automatically go in to voice mail. Free voice mail, it works with our old phone, the quality is very good and it’s almost FREE!

Lastly, I need a fast internet connection, because we do a lot of work and social media on the internet. This was my biggest concern. We had a very fast broadband service with Brighthouse and I needed it to be as good or at least close. We chose Clear wireless 4G service and purchased it from their web page. We settled on their fastest service and the cost is $45 a month, plus a $7 a month modem lease (you can buy the modem and not have this fee) and the tax/fees are about $1 a month, making a grand total of $53 a month. The service is excellent, fast and the modem can wireless connect to up to 8 devices (game consoles, PC, TV, etc.).

We could not be happier with the new changes and the total monthly cost for all three services is $53 a month compared to $172 a month, saving $119 a month or a whopping $1428 a year! What if one million Christians in America made this switch and we all saved $1400 a year and we gave it to our Church, minister or to help others in need? That’s $1.4 billion dollars freed up to use for the Kingdom of God this year. What a difference we could make and we would not even notice the change.

New Year, New Opportunity

Posted: December 30, 2010 in Uncategorized

Can you believe it, $3 gas and maybe going to $5 a gallon? Of course, as gas goes higher so does the cost of everything transported by gas. In an already slow economy, this is a precursor of a continuing slow recovery. How long, will this downturn last, is pure speculation. My guess is, which I hope is wrong, we are in for a long haul. Years as opposed to months. The material security we have been able to depend on is certainly not very dependable or comforting, right now. Yet, in this dark gloom and doom environment, there remains a beacon of light.

As the world crumbles around us and everything we hold dear in this world is shaken, there is one thing that cannot be shaken – the Kingdom of God. The things that are really important in life – love, faith, kindness, goodness and joy, can not be shaken by world events. The message to us and our generation, in these trying times is simple – seek first the Kingdom of God. As 2011 approaches, let’s make the most of this opportunity, by increasing our spiritual commitment. What better time is there, than the present uncertainty, to make a priority of personal spiritual growth. The darker the room, the more impact the tiniest light has. What a great time to be alive. What an opportunity we have been given to show the world, there is a better way.

If you are serious about a new commitment to the spiritual side of life, I have a few recommendations for you on how to begin. First, find a local Church. A non-judgmental, non-religious group of believers, who will accept you as you are and put no pressure on you to be more like them. At the first sign of judgment, pressure or condemnation, run out and never look back. Religion and it’s judgment has done more to harm the work of Jesus Christ than any force on earth. Of course, I happen to know of just such a Church, if you live in the Daytona Beach area….:) See poncechurch.com.

Second, listen to the new series on our web-page titled “The Power of Belief”. The first two parts are up and part three will be up early next week.

Third, and this one is very important, especially if you’re not in this area, is to join our “Inner Circle” group on this Blog website. This is not for everyone, but, it is for anyone with a serious commitment to grow spiritually this coming year.  It’s a good place to start and a good group to join for accountability. Read it, think it over and if it’s for you, welcome aboard.

Whatever you do, seek first the Kingdom of God. This is your reason for living at just such a time as this. Be the light, even if this world continues to grow ever darker. What an opportunity we have been given to connect to our true spiritual nature. Until next time….

The Power of Belief

Posted: December 9, 2010 in Uncategorized

What are beliefs? “Beliefs are something I believe in”, was one of the answers I received when I asked this question at Church, this past Sunday. The other responses were almost as vague. It’s a simple question, really. We all have beliefs and use them everyday of our life, yet when it comes to the definition, a striking non-clarity seems to prevail.

What if beliefs are just thoughts? Not some mysterious undefinable spiritual concept, but just thoughts. All beliefs begin as a thought. Thoughts are seeds, alive and powerful. All thoughts are like germs or a virus that enter our mind from an outside source. Once allowed in (or forced in), these thoughts begin to duplicate in our mind and spread just like a germ in our body or a virus in our computer. As a newborn baby, we are a blank hard drive. When the eyes open and the senses begin to receive data, (at about 4 billion bits per second) we begin our programming. From that point on, every thought we have comes through our senses from some outside source. Every single one. The thoughts that are repeated, rehearsed, and reinforced often enough, become our beliefs.

Beliefs are not truth. A few hundred years ago, everyone believed the earth was flat. This thought spread from one mind to another, passed down to each generation until everyone on earth believed this thought. It was inconceivable that someone could stand on the side of the earth or the bottom and not fall off. So, it was reasoned, the earth must be flat. Yet, all that belief did not make the thought true. Our beliefs are not truth, they are just simply what has been programmed into our minds and reinforced enough until they become our “truth”, our beliefs.

For more on this subject, see the new post, “A pastor’s 3 most shocking secret sins revealed” or listen to the new audio “The Power of Belief“.

These sins are the most disgusting, shameful, embarrassing, damaging, destructive, debilitating, harmful and wasteful sins I have ever committed in my life. I have committed them many times over and still do today on occasion. They reveal an outright, direct rebellion to the Word of God and the teachings of Jesus.

For those of you hoping for some juicy, gossip worthy sins of the flesh, (those of which I also have and many of you know about), these sins are none of your business….:)  Sins of the flesh are not man-kinds real problem, anyway. Jesus said, the sins of the heart are what “defile the man”. And my 3 sins are of the heart. Hidden sins that are allowed to remain and even flourish in the modern day Christian church consumed with outward sins.

In Revelation 21:8, Jesus lists eight sins worthy of the lake of fire and the top two are: fear and unbelief. My 3 sins all have to do with fear, unbelief or a combination of the two. All 3 are rooted in holding beliefs in my heart that are in direct opposition to the Word of God and the teachings of Jesus. It is these hidden sins that are the most damaging.

Before I reveal my Big 3, we need to understand that any of our long held beliefs can change. They can be changed as quickly and as simply as a computer program can be updated or installed. Of course belief’s (programs) like, “I can’t change, this is who I am, this is who I have always been” or “I tried and could not do it”, certainly seem to us, unchangeable. Until we understand that beliefs are simply thoughts, just software programs uploaded to my super computer mind and that as software, they can be updated or erased. For more on this subject see blogs, “Do you have a mind virus?” and “The Power of Belief”. Those old beliefs (programs) can be changed to a new program like, “all things are possible to those who believe” or “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”.

Okay, so what are my Big 3 sins? Well, the first one is a long held belief that “life was hard”. After 7 years pioneering a new work here in Ponce Inlet, I was convinced in my heart that life was hard and ministry was really hard! This all sounds normal and seems innocent and harmless, yet one day Jesus got my attention when He said to me, “why do you stubbornly persist in rebelling against my Word?” What? What do you mean, stubbornly rebelling?  “I said, life is easy and light and you are saying I am a liar”, He said to me. Sure enough, Matthew 11:28-30 says that life, working and serving with Jesus, is “easy and light”. This revelation and my subsequent repentance are covered in a series from last year, “The law of Faith”.

The other two sins are much more current and I will reveal them in upcoming posts and in my current series, “The Power of Belief”. You might be pleasantly surprised to discover just how easy it is to change a long-held belief. This will be the subject of this new series.
